Avoiding Obesity: Secrets To Having Physically Active Kids!

  • Set a good example. If your children observe you being physically active, they are more likely to be active.
  • Be active together as a family. Plan active outings such as a walking trip to a city attraction, hiking or biking through the river valley, playing sports with a friends family.
  • Encourage your children to walk or bike to school. Go with your children to teach safety tips en route.
  • Set limits on the amount of time your family spends watching TV and playing video games. Help your children discover fun physical activities that they will enjoy. Encourage your children to join a FUN and non-competitive sport or activity.
  • Eat healthy avoid the junk food temptations. Children and adults need nutritionally rich food to provide the energy required to be active. Eating habits are learned, so teach your children healthy eating while they are young.
Sports For Kids is a business, which provides programs focused on the wellness, health and physical fitness of children. They offer various Registered Sport and Recreation Programs, including an Out-of-School Care Program and a NEW Kindergarten Care Program. The programs allow children to explore and learn different sports and activities.

Children in the Out-of-School Care Program may attend during the morning, lunch, and after-school, or any combination of the three. During these times, there are many games with aims that allow children in the program to develop communicative and cooperative skills, while discovering new games and sports. The program is very active and promotes a healthy lifestyle.

There are a variety of Non-Competitive Registered Programs from Hip-Hop Dance to Ball Hockey that are lead by an experienced instructor. Registered programs are 12 to 15 weeks long and are available to children ages 3-15 years old. Our instructors will guide participants in developing skills in their activity of choice. The programs are available to all children within the age guidelines, designed for beginner to intermediate level participants.

For information on any of the Sports For Kids programs call 452-1266.
