Being pregnant leaves you vulnerable to so much advice from so many people.  It is usually mindboggling, contradictory and most times unsolicited. There is so much dated advice out there about when is the best time to purchase a nursing bra.

After fitting pregnant/breastfeeding women for bras for nearly ten years, here is my advice.

1) Definitely buy your nursing bras before you have your baby. 
There is no magical time i.e. at 38 weeks, etc. Many of the bras that are recommended for pregnant ladies are very flexible in their sizing with bands that have many hooks for adjusting and cups that can accommodate increasing breast sizes (usually 1-2 cup size range).

2) Choose a time when you are up to the task of bra shopping. 
This can really be at any time during your pregnancy.  Do not wait till the last minute as I have seen many a panicked husband trying to buy bras for their wife who has had an unexpected early delivery.  Visit a reputable boutique which offers experience in fitting pregnant/ nursing women.

3) How many bras do I buy?
A great number to start with is two nursing bras and one nursing tank top.  After about three months of nursing you can then come back for a more perfectly fitting bra that will be very supportive.  At that time you can go with an underwire design if that is what you are used to.
