The Many Benefits of Babywearing
Babies love and need to be carried. Modern research and centuries of tradition have shown us that babies who are carried are provided with so many valuable benefits ranging from advanced mental development to an enhanced mother-infant bond. Babywearing has become an essential part of mothering in the new millennium.
Parents have come to understand the boding importance of being close to their babies. Parents can also benefit from having both hand free for work or play while your baby enjoys the warmth and familiarity of your closeness. Wearing a baby creates a win-win situation for both mother and baby-the baby is secure and content and the mother finds her baby very enjoyable.
Part of the art of babywearing is to carry your baby as much as possible. The amount of holding time will naturally decrease as your baby increases in age and motor skills. We must fully embrace the first 3-4 months of babywearing when the baby can fit perfectly in a little ball next to your chest. This creates a wonderful return to womb feeling for the baby and is very beneficial for the bonding experience.
For some people, babywearing may take some time and practice to get used to. Be patient and don’t give up! It will come. Babywearing has changed the lives of many parents and their children. Hold them all you can! They grow up so quickly!
Infant development researchers from around the world who have studied baby care practices reveal that there are many significant benefits for babies who are carried in slings. Here are only a few…
